Andrew Grill - Paul Harris Fellow - Rotary Club of Sydney

Paul Harris Fellow MedalIn July 2006, Andrew was awarded with a Paul Harris Fellow, in recognition of his service to the club and the community over the past 8 years.  Read more about the Paul Harris Fellow award here.

Andrew has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Sydney since December 1998. Andrew's involvement has included organising large scale events such as communications for the "TunnelWalk2" (1999) and "Airport Link" (2000) charity walks, as well as serving on the vocational, membership and community service committees. 

In 2001, he was responsible for developing and producing the "Moulin Rouge Ball", as well as providing technical and production support for the annual ING Dinner. In 2002 and 2003, he was responsible for organising and staging the annual Rotary versus Rotaract debate.  Andrew has himself been an active club debater, captaining the club's team to victory in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003.  Andrew has also represented the club as a debater at events such as the "Great Ethics Debate" held on the floor of the NSW Parliament in 2003.  As a committed Rotarian, Andrew has also made himself available as a speaker for other clubs in the district.

In 2001 Andrew was the Production Manager responsible for running the District 9750 conference in Sydney, including producing all of the on-stage elements, audio visual, speaker's aids, sound, lighting, stage management, and communications.

In 2002, he produced a promotional video for the club which has been used to recruit new members as well as promote the club to the wider community. 

Andrew has served on the Board of the club since 2001 when he was  Director of the Community Service Committee (2001-2002). In 2003-2004, Andrew was one of the Club's 2 Vice-Presidents, responsible for the club's external committees - Community Service, Vocational Service, Youth Service and International Service. 

Andrew has actively encouraged new members to join, and to date has introduced 5 new members into the club, including his Wife, Samantha, who is also an active Rotarian.

In March 2004, Andrew addressed the District 9750 Conference, speaking on the topic "Bridging the Rotary Generation Gap". You can view a copy of this presentation online.

Andrew was most recently the Club's Director of Technology, continuing his work on the development and maintenance of the club's website located at www.sydneyrotary.com, a role he has performed since 1999.

On 17th April 2007, Andrew was inducted into the Rotary Club of London.

Andrew is a member of the South Australian Business Ambassador's Network (SABAN)

South Australia recognises the talent and experience of its expatriates, and celebrates their successes. Through SABAN, expatriate South Australians and SA-based business leaders who frequently travel, promote South Australia within their spheres of influence.

SABAN currently consists of approximately 230 influential business leaders invited by the Premier of South Australia to be Business Ambassadors for the State. Business Ambassadors identify opportunities to promote Business Migration, Tourism and Business Tourism, Attracting and Retaining Talent, Inward investment, Importing, Exporting and Bilateral Trade, and refers interested business people to SABAN Central.

SABAN Central works with Business Ambassadors, the Government of South Australia and the Private Sector to demonstrate not only that South Australia is a great place to live, visit, work, invest and do business, but that it is indeed the right place .

SABAN is delivered through Business SA's International Business Unit, a natural home for such a business-led initiative.

Andrew Grill is a former Board Member of Volunteering NSW


Volunteering NSW


In September 2003, Andrew was invited to join the board of Volunteering NSW, a position he held until July 2006 - ahead of his move to the UK.

Volunteering NSW is the State peak body on volunteering. It provides a voice to the NSW Government, and also through Volunteering Australia a voice on issues that impact volunteering throughout Australia and the world.

The primary mission of Volunteering NSW is "To promote and support volunteering to enrich the life of the community".

Andrew Grill is a Board Member of The Friends of the Duke of Edinburgh AwardDuke of Edinburgh's Award

Andrew is also a Friend of the Duke of Edinburgh's award, and in November 2003 was asked to join the Friends' Board.  Andrew was involved with a Gala Dinner, held in November 2002 to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the award in Australia,  attended by HRH Prince Edward.

Andrew's production company HotGrill productions produced a promotional video to celebrate the award that was shown at a number of events during the Prince's visit.

Alzheimer's NSW Major Fundraising event 2004 - 2005


Andrew assisted Alzheimer's NSW stage their major fundraiser - Corporate Battle of the Bands in May 2005. Andrew pioneered the use of SMS voting for the people's choice award for the 2004 event.  Andrew is no stranger to charity events, having run several high profile corporate functions through his involvement with the Rotary Club of Sydney, where he's on the board as Technology Director.

Andrew has a deep understanding of the corporate arena, having held senior roles with Optus and Telstra as well as starting Australia's leading commercial property website, PropertyLook. More recently, Andrew was General Manager of business-to-business messaging specialists LegionONE, and currently is General Manager of new Location Based Services provider Seeker Wireless. Seeker Wireless will be launching an innovative range of location based services in 2005, aimed at allowing users to accurately pinpoint the location of any mobile in Australia as a permission-based service for consumers and corporates.

Andrew Grill was instrumental in establishing www.pif.com.au and the Property Blitz Concept  Property Industry foundation

Andrew has been involved in a number of Property Industry Foundation Events, such as the Annual Regatta (sitting on the committee) as well as co-ordinating young members of the Property Industry to work on charity events under the "Property Blitz Productions" banner. 

In October 2002, Andrew was the Special Event Producer for the Annual Ball - responsible for a team of 7 crew, producing all of the on-screen material, as well as a live TV show at the ball.  Andrew developed the PIF website located at www.pif.com.au.

Andrew Grill was instrumental in establishing www.futuredirections.infoProperty Council of Australia's Future Directions Group

While not a charity, The Future Directions Group represents Under 35's in the Property Industry, and Andrew has been involved with charity programs involving the Future Directions members - co-ordinating the "Official Ground Crew" at the Property Industry's Annual Regatta in March 2002.  Andrew has also been involved in developing the website for Future Directions located at www.futuredirections.info.  Andrew served on the committee of the Future Directions Group from 2001 - 2002.

Andrew Grill is a Panel Member of the Triton Foundation Triton Foundation

The Triton Foundation was a national, not-for-profit organisation founded by George Lewin, inventor of the Australian icon - the Triton Work Bench. Andrew provided support to the Triton foundation and was one of the Invention Assessment Panel (IAP) members that regularly reviewed inventions submitted to the foundation for financial support. In late 2004, the Triton Foundation wound down operations.

Andrew Grill is a great supporter of the YWCA Big Sister Big Brother Project Big Sister Big Brother

Andrew is a friend of the YWCA "Big Sister, Big Brother" program - and is directly involved in the program through the Rotary Club of Sydney, as this project is the club's "President's Project" for 2002/2003.  Andrew is involved with Rotary in assisting the program develop new marketing materials.

Andrew Grill is a great supporter of the Lifestart Project Lifestart

During the Rotary 2001/2002 year, Andrew was involved in supporting the Lifestart program as part of the Rotary Club of Sydney's "President's Project" for that year.

Lifestart was established in April 1996 as the "vision" of eight families to provide a community-based early childhood intervention program for young children with an intellectual disability or developmental delay aged 0-6 years.

Lifestart is a parent co-operative providing a family-centred approach to the educational and emotional needs of children with disabilities and their families.
